Disposable Laryngeal Mask Airway (Disposable LMA) is a one-time use, sterile-packaged supraglottic airway device used for establishing and maintaining artificial airways during anesthesia or emergency situations. It is a moderately invasive airway tool.
1. Working Principle
It is inserted orally through a blind procedure, with the cover bag located above the glottis (superior to the glottis), the tip touching the upper esophageal sphincter, and the sides adhering to the pyriform sinus, with the upper edge touching the base of the tongue. After inflation, the cover bag seals the entrance of the larynx and does not enter the trachea, allowing for ventilation.
2. Main Applications (Indications)
Anesthesia: Short surgeries, spontaneous breathing or low-pressure positive pressure ventilation, replacing face masks, reducing the need for tracheal intubation
Emergency / Resuscitation: Difficult airways, failed intubation, pre-hospital emergency care, rapid ventilation for unconscious patients
Airway Management: Cervical spine injuries (with minimal head movement), short prone or lateral position surgeries.
